Adam Smith is a Democratic U.S. Representative from Washington's 9th District and ranking member of the House Armed Services Committee.
David Adam Smith was born June 15, 1965, in Washington, D.C., and worked his way through Fordham University, graduating in 1987 with a degree in Political Science. He earned his law degree from the University of Washington School of Law in 1990 and worked as a prosecutor for the City of Seattle from 1993 to 1995. He served in the Washington State Senate from 1991 to 1997 before winning election to Congress in 1996, defeating incumbent Republican Randy Tate. Now serving his fifteenth term, Smith represents a district covering parts of Seattle, Tacoma, Bellevue, and Joint Base Lewis-McChord. He serves as ranking member of the House Armed Services Committee, where he previously served as chair, and focuses on defense policy, military personnel issues, and arms control, bringing decades of experience to one of Congress's most important oversight roles.
