Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, widely known as AOC, is the U.S. Representative for New York's 14th Congressional District, a Democrat first elected in 2018 serving her fourth term representing parts of the Bronx and Queens including Astoria, Jackson Heights, and Throgs Neck. A Boston University graduate who worked as a bartender and waitress, she gained national prominence through her stunning 2018 primary upset against ten-term incumbent Joseph Crowley, becoming the youngest woman ever elected to Congress at 29. A leading voice for the Green New Deal, Medicare for All, and progressive economic policies, Ocasio-Cortez sits on the House Oversight and Energy and Commerce committees. She co-chairs the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition and continues her work as a prominent member of The Squad of progressive Democrats.
