Biography

Amy Klobuchar is a Democratic Minnesota senator, former county prosecutor, and antitrust leader known for her bipartisan track record and 2020 presidential bid.

Amy Jean Klobuchar serves as the senior U.S. Senator from Minnesota, a Democrat first elected in 2006 and re-elected in 2012, 2018, and 2024. A Plymouth, Minnesota native and graduate of Yale and the University of Chicago Law School, Klobuchar worked as a private attorney and then as Hennepin County Attorney for two terms before becoming the first woman elected to represent Minnesota in the Senate. In the 119th Congress, she chairs the Judiciary Subcommittee on Competition Policy, Antitrust, and Consumer Rights, and also serves on Agriculture, Commerce, and Rules and Administration committees. Klobuchar is known for her bipartisan track record, robust interest in antitrust and technology policy, election administration, prescription drug affordability, and agriculture. In 2025, she has reintroduced comprehensive antitrust legislation including measures to prevent algorithmic price-fixing and restore competition to American markets. She ran for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination before endorsing Joe Biden.
