Andy Harris is an 8-term Republican U.S. Representative from Maryland's 1st District, an anesthesiologist and Navy officer who chairs the House Freedom Caucus.
Andrew Peter Harris has represented Maryland's 1st Congressional District, encompassing the Eastern Shore and parts of Baltimore and Harford counties, since 2010. Born in Brooklyn to Hungarian immigrant parents, Harris graduated from Johns Hopkins University, Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, and Johns Hopkins Carey Business School, and served as a U.S. Navy Reserve officer, retiring as a captain. He practiced as an anesthesiologist before serving two decades in the Maryland State Senate. Harris is the sole Republican in Maryland's current U.S. House delegation and chairs the House Freedom Caucus, leading a cohort of conservative House members.
