Becca Balint is a Democratic U.S. Representative from Vermont's at-large district and Vermont's first woman and LGBTQ+ representative.
Becca Balint is the U.S. Representative for Vermont's at-large congressional district, serving since 2023. She made history as the first woman and first openly LGBTQ+ person to represent Vermont in Congress. A graduate of Smith College with master's degrees from Harvard University and the University of Massachusetts, Balint worked as a middle school history teacher before her election to the Vermont Senate in 2014. She served as majority leader of the Vermont Senate from 2017 to 2021 and became the first woman president pro tempore before her 2022 congressional election. Winning reelection in 2024 with 62.29 percent of the vote, Balint sits on the House Judiciary Committee and the Budget Committee. A leader in the Progressive Caucus, she prioritizes civil rights, LGBTQ+ equality, rural economic development, and support for Vermont's dairy farming communities and agricultural heritage.
