Brian Mast is a Republican U.S. Representative from Florida's 21st District and chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, an Army combat veteran who lost both legs in Afghanistan.
Brian Jeffery Mast is the U.S. Representative for Florida's 21st Congressional District, a Republican first elected in 2016 and currently serving his fifth term representing Florida's Treasure Coast including parts of Martin, St. Lucie, and Palm Beach counties. Mast served as a U.S. Army bomb-disposal specialist and explosive ordnance disposal technician with the elite Joint Special Operations Command's 75th Ranger Regiment. While deployed to Kandahar, Afghanistan in July 2010 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, he uncovered and was disarming an improvised explosive device when it detonated, resulting in catastrophic injuries including the loss of both legs. He earned the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, and Army Commendation Medal with Valor device during his 12 years of military service. After recovery, Mast earned a Bachelor of Liberal Arts degree from Harvard University's Extension School with concentrations in economics and government. He volunteered to serve with the Israel Defense Forces and became a prominent pro-Israel advocate. In the 119th Congress, Mast serves as Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, focusing on veterans, national security, U.S.-Israel relations, and Everglades water quality.
