Burgess Owens is a Republican U.S. Representative from Utah's 4th District and former NFL defensive back who won Super Bowl XV.
Burgess Frank Owens is the U.S. Representative for Utah's 4th Congressional District, serving since 2021. A graduate of the University of Miami, Owens played ten seasons as a safety in the National Football League for the New York Jets and Oakland Raiders, winning the Super Bowl XV championship in 1980. After his NFL career, he became a businessman and conservative political commentator and author. First elected to Congress in 2020, narrowly defeating incumbent Democrat Ben McAdams, Owens currently serves his third term representing a district covering Salt Lake County's southern suburbs. One of the few African American Republicans in Congress, he sits on the House Education and the Workforce Committee and the Judiciary Committee, where he chairs the Subcommittee on Higher Education and Workforce Development. His legislative priorities focus on education reform, workforce development, and conservative social policy.
