Christian Menefee is a Democrat from Texas's 18th District, the youngest Harris County Attorney in history, elected in a 2026 special election representing Houston.
Christian D. Menefee is the U.S. Representative for Texas's 18th Congressional District, a Democrat elected in a January 2026 special election to fill a vacancy created by Rep. Sylvester Turner's death in March 2025. Menefee, 37, is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and South Texas College of Law Houston. In 2020, he was elected Harris County Attorney, becoming the first African American and youngest person to hold that office, a position he held until 2025. He was sworn into Congress in February 2026. His district is heavily Democratic, covering much of central Houston. Menefee received broad endorsements from Houston's political establishment including from Erica Lee Carter, daughter of the late Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, and from state and national Democratic leaders. In March 2026, Menefee faces a Democratic primary for a redrawn district where he will compete against fellow representatives Al Green and Amanda Edwards.
