Biography

Darren Soto is a Democratic U.S. Representative from Florida's 9th District, the first member of Congress of Puerto Rican descent from Florida representing Central Florida.

Darren Michael Soto is the U.S. Representative for Florida's 9th Congressional District, a Democrat first elected in 2016 serving his fifth term representing a Central Florida district including Kissimmee, parts of Orlando, and the growing Puerto Rican and Latino communities of Osceola County. Born to a Puerto Rican father and Italian-American mother, Soto is a graduate of Rutgers University and George Washington University Law School who worked as a civil rights and workers' compensation attorney. He served in the Florida House of Representatives and Florida Senate before his congressional election, becoming the first member of Congress of Puerto Rican descent from Florida. In the 119th Congress, Soto serves on the House Energy and Commerce Committee and the Natural Resources Committee. His legislative focus includes Puerto Rico recovery and status, agricultural support, digital asset regulation, and advancing opportunities for Latino communities in Central Florida.
