Deb Fischer is a Republican Nebraska senator and rancher, former state legislator serving her third term.
Debra Strobel Fischer serves as the senior U.S. Senator from Nebraska, a Republican first elected in 2012 and re-elected in 2018 and 2024. Born in Lincoln, Nebraska, Fischer is a longtime cattle rancher near Valentine in the Nebraska Sandhills who served twelve years in the Nebraska Legislature, where she chaired the Transportation and Telecommunications Committee, before winning her Senate seat in an upset Republican primary. In the 119th Congress, Fischer serves on the Armed Services, Commerce Science and Transportation, Agriculture, and Rules committees. She chairs the Armed Services Subcommittee on Strategic Forces, focusing on America's nuclear triad and space as a warfighting domain, and chairs the Commerce Subcommittee on Telecommunications and Media overseeing broadband, spectrum management, and communications infrastructure. Fischer was appointed Deputy Whip in the 119th Congress, assisting Majority Whip John Barrasso. She has focused on agriculture, rural broadband and transportation, nuclear modernization at Offutt Air Force Base, and paid family leave initiatives developed with Democratic colleagues.
