Debbie Wasserman Schultz is a Democratic U.S. Representative from Florida's 25th District, a senior Appropriations Committee member and former chair of the Democratic National Committee.
Deborah Wasserman Schultz is the U.S. Representative for Florida's 25th Congressional District, a Democrat first elected in 2004 and currently serving her eleventh term representing a Broward County district including Weston, Davie, and parts of Fort Lauderdale. Born in Queens, New York, she moved to Florida to attend the University of Florida, where she earned a B.A. and M.A. She worked as a state legislative aide and became the youngest woman elected to the Florida Legislature at the time, serving in both chambers before entering Congress. Wasserman Schultz served as chair of the Democratic National Committee from 2011 to 2016, playing a major role in Democratic Party strategy and operations. In the 119th Congress, she serves on the House Appropriations Committee, with subcommittee assignments on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Energy and Water Development, focusing on breast cancer research, gun safety, Israel, and children's issues including advocacy for childhood health and education.
