Buddy Carter is a Republican U.S. Representative from Georgia's 1st District, a pharmacist and former state legislator, the only pharmacist in the House.
Earl Leroy 'Buddy' Carter is the U.S. Representative for Georgia's 1st Congressional District, a Republican first elected in 2014 and currently serving his sixth term representing coastal Georgia including Savannah and the Golden Isles. A pharmacist by training, Carter graduated from Young Harris College and the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy, and owned and operated Carter's Pharmacy, Inc. for over 32 years. He served on the Pooler City Council from 1994 to 1995, was Mayor of Pooler from 1996 to 2004, and served in both chambers of the Georgia General Assembly from 2005 to 2014. He is the only pharmacist serving in the House of Representatives. In the 119th Congress, Carter is Chair of the Health Subcommittee of the Energy and Commerce Committee and a member of the Budget Committee, focusing on pharmaceutical pricing, Medicare, healthcare policy, and coastal Georgia's military and port economy. In May 2025, Carter announced he would not seek re-election in 2026, instead pursuing the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate to challenge incumbent Jon Ossoff.
