Elise Marie Stefanik, U.S. Representative for New York's 21st Congressional District, is a Republican first elected in 2014 serving her sixth term representing the vast North Country region including the Adirondacks, Plattsburgh, and Fort Drum. A Harvard University graduate who worked in the George W. Bush White House and on Paul Ryan's 2012 vice-presidential campaign, she was the youngest woman ever elected to Congress at her first election. Initially seen as a moderate, Stefanik became one of Donald Trump's most prominent defenders and served as chair of the House Republican Conference from 2021 to 2025. Nominated as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations in November 2024, her nomination was withdrawn in March 2025 to preserve the Republican House majority. She stepped down from leadership and continues serving in her House seat.
