U.S. Representative from NM, District 2

Gabe Vasquez is a Democrat from southern New Mexico focused on border policy, agriculture, and military installations, serving on Agriculture and Armed Services.
Gabriel Vasquez represents New Mexico's 2nd Congressional District spanning southern New Mexico including Las Cruces, border communities, and portions of Albuquerque's South Valley. Born in El Paso and raised on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border, Vasquez worked as a staffer for Senator Martin Heinrich and as a conservation advocate before serving on the Las Cruces City Council. Narrowly defeating Republican incumbent Yvette Herrell in 2022 and winning re-election in 2024, Vasquez has secured his competitive seat. In the 119th Congress, he serves on the House Agriculture Committee with subcommittee assignments in Conservation, Research, and Biotechnology and Forestry, and the Armed Services Committee with focus on Readiness and Strategic Forces. Vasquez prioritizes border security modernization, agricultural support, military facility operations, and conservation of New Mexico's natural resources.
