Gregory Weldon Meeks represents New York's 5th Congressional District covering southeast Queens including Jamaica, Far Rockaway, and portions of Nassau County. An Adelphi and Howard Law School graduate, Meeks served as assistant district attorney in Queens and in the New York State Assembly before his 1998 special election to Congress. In the 119th Congress, Meeks serves as ranking member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, leading Democratic oversight of international relations, trade policy, and human rights. He also serves on the Financial Services Committee, bringing him influence over minority banking and economic development. Meeks is a leading voice on democracy promotion, civil rights advocacy, and addressing U.S. foreign policy challenges while protecting minority economic interests and supporting his Queens constituents with significant Caribbean and African diaspora populations.
