Morgan Griffith is a Republican U.S. Representative from Virginia's 9th District since 2011, representing Southwest Virginia and Appalachia.
Howard Morgan Griffith is the U.S. Representative for Virginia's 9th Congressional District, serving since 2011 and currently in his eighth term. A graduate of Emory and Henry College and Washington and Lee University School of Law, Griffith practiced law and served 17 years in the Virginia House of Delegates, including as Majority Leader, before his congressional election. He represents a vast, rural, and mountainous district covering Southwest Virginia and Appalachian communities from Roanoke's western exurbs through the far southwestern tip of the state. Griffith sits on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, focusing on coal industry support, energy policy, and rural economic development. He has championed the Abandoned Mine Land Economic Revitalization Program, which has generated over 10 million dollars annually for the district since its establishment in 2016, helping convert former mining sites into productive uses and supporting economic diversification.
