A Gustavus Adolphus College graduate with degrees from the University of West Florida and Naval War College, Bergman served over forty years in the U.S. Marine Corps and Marine Forces Reserve, retiring as a lieutenant general and the highest-ranking military combat veteran ever elected to Congress. He also worked as a commercial airline pilot. In Congress, he chairs the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Readiness and sits on the Veterans' Affairs Committee, leveraging his defense expertise for national security priorities.
