Biography
Jack Bergman is a 5-term Republican U.S. Representative from Michigan's 1st District, retired three-star Marine Corps general and chairman of Armed Services Readiness Subcommittee.
John 'Jack' Bergman represents Michigan's 1st Congressional District, encompassing the entire Upper Peninsula and much of the northern Lower Peninsula, since 2016. A Gustavus Adolphus College graduate with degrees from the University of West Florida and Naval War College, Bergman served over forty years in the U.S. Marine Corps and Marine Forces Reserve, retiring as a lieutenant general and the highest-ranking military combat veteran ever elected to Congress. He also worked as a commercial airline pilot. In Congress, he chairs the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Readiness and sits on the Veterans' Affairs Committee, leveraging his defense expertise for national security priorities. Bergman focuses on veterans support, the strategically important Sault Ste. Marie locks, timber and mining industries, and Great Lakes interests vital to Michigan's Upper Peninsula economy.
