Jim Baird represents Indiana's 4th District as a Republican, Army Vietnam veteran with a Ph.D. in animal science, and member of Agriculture and Science committees.
James Richard Baird is the U.S. Representative for Indiana's 4th Congressional District, serving his fourth term since 2019. A U.S. Army Vietnam veteran with a Purple Heart and Bronze Star, Baird earned a Ph.D. in animal science from the University of Kentucky and taught agricultural programs at Purdue University before serving in the Indiana House. In the 119th Congress, he serves on the House Agriculture Committee (Conservation, Research, and Biotechnology; Forestry and Horticulture; and Livestock, Dairy, and Poultry subcommittees), the Foreign Affairs Committee, and the Science, Space, and Technology Committee. He combines scientific expertise with advocacy for agricultural innovation, rural economic development, veterans' support, and rural educational access.
