Jesús 'Chuy' García represents Illinois's 4th District as a Democrat and is a Mexican immigrant, longtime Chicago political organizer, and former alderman and state senator known for housing and transportation advocacy.
Jesús G. 'Chuy' García has served as U.S. Representative for Illinois's 4th Congressional District since 2019, now in his fourth term. Born in Durango, Mexico, he immigrated to Chicago's Little Village neighborhood as a child and graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago. García is a veteran community organizer and former Chicago alderman and Illinois state senator who finished second in Chicago's 2015 mayoral election. In the 119th Congress, he serves on the Transportation and Infrastructure and House Judiciary committees. He announced in November 2024 that he would not seek reelection in 2026, concluding a three-decade career advancing immigrant communities' rights, affordable housing, transit expansion, and economic justice.
