Biography

Democratic U.S. Representative from Texas's 20th District since 2013; serves on Foreign Affairs and Intelligence committees.

Joaquin Castro is the U.S. Representative for Texas's 20th Congressional District, a Democrat first elected in 2012. The twin brother of former San Antonio Mayor and HUD Secretary Julián Castro, Joaquin graduated from Stanford University and Harvard Law School. Before his congressional election, he served in the Texas House of Representatives. Castro represents a heavily Hispanic district covering much of San Antonio. He sits on the House Foreign Affairs and Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, focusing on foreign policy, Latino representation in American institutions, and education. In 2022, Castro underwent major surgery at MD Anderson Cancer Center for neuroendocrine tumors, which has since remained stable. He won reelection in 2024 running unopposed.
