John James is a Republican U.S. Representative from Michigan's 10th District, an Army Apache pilot and entrepreneur representing a Macomb County swing seat.
John James III is the U.S. Representative for Michigan's 10th Congressional District, a Republican first elected in 2022 and currently serving his second term. He represents a southeast Michigan district covering much of Macomb County north of Detroit. A U.S. Military Academy graduate with advanced degrees from Pennsylvania State University and the University of Michigan Ross School of Business, James served as an Army Apache helicopter pilot and led troops in Operation Iraqi Freedom. He later led a family logistics and supply chain business in metro Detroit. After unsuccessful U.S. Senate campaigns in 2018 and 2020, he won his House seat. In the 119th Congress, he serves on the Energy and Commerce Committee with subcommittee assignments including Commerce, Manufacturing and Trade; Energy; and Health, and prioritizes national security, manufacturing, and Black Republican outreach.
