John McGuire is a Republican U.S. Representative from Virginia's 5th District, a retired Navy SEAL elected in 2024.
John Joseph McGuire III is the U.S. Representative for Virginia's 5th Congressional District, serving since January 2025. A retired U.S. Navy SEAL with ten years of active service including multiple overseas deployments, advanced training as a sniper, and instructor certifications, McGuire earned degrees from Liberty University and Virginia Commonwealth University. After leaving military service, he founded a fitness business and subsequently entered Virginia politics. McGuire served in both chambers of the Virginia General Assembly before his 2024 congressional election, during which he defeated incumbent Bob Good in a closely watched Republican primary notable for its 2024 presidential politics.
