Jon Husted is Ohio's junior Republican senator, former Ohio lieutenant governor and secretary of state, appointed in January 2025 to fill JD Vance's Senate seat.
Jon Husted is the junior U.S. Senator from Ohio, a Republican appointed by Governor Mike DeWine in January 2025 to fill the seat vacated by JD Vance upon his inauguration as Vice President. A Montpelier, Ohio native, Husted earned bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Dayton, where he played football, and worked at the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce before being elected to the Ohio House in 2000. He rose to become speaker of the Ohio House, then served in the Ohio State Senate, as Ohio secretary of state from 2011 to 2019, and as lieutenant governor under Mike DeWine from 2019 to 2025, where he led statewide workforce and technology initiatives. In the 119th Congress, he serves on Appropriations, Environment and Public Works, Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, Small Business and Entrepreneurship, and the Special Committee on Aging. His subcommittee work spans environmental oversight, clean energy, education and labor policy, and health security. In the Senate he focuses on workforce development, manufacturing, and technology policy to support Ohio's economy.
