Julia Letlow (R-LA-5) is the first Republican woman to represent Louisiana in the House, serving her third term.
Julia Jeanne Barnhill Letlow is the U.S. Representative for Louisiana's 5th Congressional District, a Republican first elected in a March 2021 special election. She succeeded her late husband Luke Letlow, who won the seat but died of COVID-19 before taking office. Letlow is the first Republican woman to represent Louisiana in Congress. A graduate of the University of Louisiana at Monroe with a doctorate in communication from the University of South Florida, she worked as a university administrator. She represents a large district covering northeast and central Louisiana's rural parishes. In the 119th Congress, she serves on the House Appropriations Committee with subcommittee assignments on Agriculture, Labor and Health and Human Services, and National Security, alongside the Education and Workforce Committee, focusing on education, agriculture, and rural economic development.
