Kristen McDonald Rivet is a Democratic U.S. Representative from Michigan's 8th District, a former state senator representing Flint, Bay City, and Saginaw.
Kristen McDonald Rivet is the U.S. Representative for Michigan's 8th Congressional District, a Democrat first elected in 2024 and currently serving her first term. She represents a mid-Michigan district including Flint, Saginaw, Bay City, and Midland. A University of Michigan graduate, McDonald Rivet worked in state government under multiple Michigan administrations and as a nonprofit executive focused on child welfare and poverty issues before serving one term in the Michigan State Senate. She succeeded longtime Representative Dan Kildee. In the 119th Congress, she serves on the House Agriculture Committee and Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, and was named Freshman Leadership Representative for the New Democrat Coalition. Her legislative priorities include auto and advanced manufacturing, Great Lakes protection, water infrastructure addressing the Flint water crisis, and childcare access.
