United States Senator from AK

Lisa Murkowski is Alaska's senior Republican senator since 2002, known for her independent positions on abortion, LGBTQ rights, and Arctic policy leadership.
Lisa Murkowski has represented Alaska in the U.S. Senate since 2002, initially appointed by her father, then-Governor Frank Murkowski, and subsequently elected in 2004, 2010 in a historic write-in campaign, 2016, and 2022. A lawyer and former state representative, Murkowski is one of the Senate's most independent Republicans, frequently departing from party orthodoxy on abortion access, LGBTQ protections, and judicial confirmations. As chair of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee since January 2025 and a senior member of the Appropriations and Energy and Natural Resources committees, she has been instrumental in advancing Arctic priorities, including advocacy for increased icebreaker capabilities and establishment of an Arctic Ambassador-at-Large position. She champions federal investment in Alaska infrastructure, Indigenous health programs, and fisheries management while wielding significant leverage as a key swing vote in a closely divided Senate.
