Marcia Carolyn Kaptur is the U.S. Representative for Ohio's 9th Congressional District, a Democrat first elected in 1982 now serving her twenty-second term, making her the longest-serving woman in the history of the U.S. House of Representatives. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin, University of Michigan, and MIT who worked as a city planner and Carter White House domestic policy aide, Kaptur represents a district covering Toledo and stretching along Lake Erie. She sits on the House Appropriations Committee where she chairs or serves as ranking member of the Energy and Water Subcommittee, focusing on manufacturing, Great Lakes issues, and Ukraine. Co-chair of the Congressional Ukraine Caucus, she has been instrumental in mobilizing support for Ukraine.
