Maria Elvira Salazar is a Republican U.S. Representative from Florida's 27th District, a prominent former Spanish-language television journalist representing Miami.
María Elvira Salazar is the U.S. Representative for Florida's 27th Congressional District, a Republican first elected in 2020 and currently serving her third term representing a Miami-based district including Coral Gables, Coconut Grove, and Little Havana. The daughter of Cuban exiles, Salazar was born in Miami and graduated from the University of Miami with a B.A. and earned an M.P.A. from the Harvard Kennedy School. She spent more than three decades as a prominent Spanish-language television journalist with networks including Telemundo, CNN en Español, and Univision, conducting high-profile interviews with Latin American political leaders and covering major international events. In the 119th Congress, Salazar serves on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, chairs the Western Hemisphere Subcommittee for her second term, and focuses on U.S.-Latin America policy, immigration reform, and small business development in the Hispanic community.
