Melanie Stansbury represents New Mexico's 1st Congressional District encompassing Albuquerque and surrounding areas, a position she gained through a June 2021 special election following Deb Haaland's appointment as Interior Secretary. A doctorate holder in natural resources from Cornell University, Stansbury brings expert knowledge of water and environmental policy from prior roles as Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee senior staffer and Obama administration official at the Office of Management and Budget. In the 119th Congress, she serves on the House Natural Resources Committee with subcommittee assignments in Federal Lands and Water, and Wildlife and Fisheries, and as ranking member of the Oversight and Government Reform Subcommittee on Delivering Government Efficiency.
