Mike Crapo is Idaho's senior Republican senator, Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee overseeing taxes, trade, and entitlements.
Michael Dean Crapo is the senior U.S. Senator from Idaho, a Republican first elected in 1998 and now serving his fifth term after winning re-election in 2022. An Idaho Falls native and Harvard Law graduate who worked as a bond attorney, Crapo served in the Idaho State Senate, including as its president pro tempore, and for three terms in the U.S. House before moving to the Senate. In the 119th Congress, he chairs the Senate Finance Committee, the panel with jurisdiction over taxes, trade, Social Security, and Medicare. He also serves on Banking, Budget, and Indian Affairs, and was selected as Chief Deputy Republican Whip. Crapo was a principal architect of the 2018 bipartisan banking regulatory reform law that rolled back parts of Dodd-Frank for smaller institutions. He has focused on tax policy, federal lands and water issues in the Mountain West, and tribal self-governance.
