United States Senator from UT

Mike Lee is the senior U.S. Senator from Utah, a constitutional law scholar and former federal prosecutor serving his third term.
Michael Shumway Lee, Utah's senior senator since 2011, has become a leading intellectual voice within Senate conservatism, particularly on constitutional law and antitrust issues. The son of former U.S. Solicitor General Rex Lee, Mike Lee was born in Mesa, Arizona, and earned degrees from Brigham Young University, later clerking for future Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito on a federal appeals court. He worked as a federal prosecutor and in private law practice, then served as general counsel to Utah Governor Jon Huntsman Jr. before running for Senate as a Tea Party-aligned insurgent in 2010. Re-elected in 2016 and 2022, Lee has authored multiple books on constitutional history. In the 119th Congress, he chairs or serves on the Commerce, Energy and Natural Resources, and Judiciary committees. Lee remains known for his originalist constitutional interpretation, rigorous work on antitrust enforcement against large technology companies, public-lands policy in the West, and his advocacy for limits on executive power and federal overreach.
