Mike Rounds is the junior U.S. Senator from South Dakota and a former two-term governor who serves on the Armed Services Committee.
Marion Michael Rounds, South Dakota's junior senator since 2015, combines extensive executive experience with defense-focused legislative work. A Pierre, South Dakota, native and South Dakota State University graduate, Rounds built a career in insurance and real estate before entering politics. He served in the South Dakota State Senate and rose to majority leader before being elected governor in 2002, serving two terms during the 2008 financial crisis. In the 119th Congress, Rounds sits on the Appropriations, Armed Services, Banking, Intelligence, and Environment and Public Works committees, and chairs the Armed Services Subcommittee on Cybersecurity while chairing the Banking Committee's Securities, Insurance, and Investments Subcommittee. His priorities emphasize agriculture, tribal nation relations with South Dakota's nine nations, nuclear modernization at Ellsworth Air Force Base, and regulatory reform.
