Monica De La Cruz is a Republican from Texas's 15th District, the first Republican to represent this south Texas district, serving in her second term.
Monica De La Cruz is the U.S. Representative for Texas's 15th Congressional District, a Republican first elected in 2022 serving her second term. Born in 1974 and a graduate of the University of Texas at San Antonio with a degree in marketing, De La Cruz worked as an insurance agent and business owner before entering politics. She made history as the first Republican ever elected to represent the 15th District, part of a broader shift among Rio Grande Valley Hispanic voters toward Republican candidates. After losing her 2020 campaign by three percentage points, she won in 2022 with Trump and McCarthy endorsements and was reelected in 2024 with 58 percent of the vote. Her district stretches from the McAllen area north to just outside San Antonio. De La Cruz serves on the House Financial Services, Agriculture, and Veterans' Affairs committees and has passed significant legislation targeting fentanyl trafficking and supports border security and agricultural initiatives.
