Nanette Barragán is a Democratic U.S. Representative from California's 44th District and Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus.
Nanette Diaz Barragán is the U.S. Representative for California's 44th Congressional District, a Democrat first elected in 2016 and currently serving her fifth term. The youngest of eleven children of Mexican immigrants, Barragán earned degrees from UCLA and the University of Southern California Law School. She worked as a corporate and civil rights attorney before serving on the Hermosa Beach City Council and as mayor. In the 119th Congress, she serves as Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and Co-Chair of the House Democratic Steering & Policy Committee. She sits on the Energy and Commerce Committee and chairs the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Border Security, Facilitation, and Operations. Her legislative priorities include environmental justice and climate action, comprehensive immigration reform, port and maritime issues affecting the Los Angeles area, and advancing economic opportunities for Latino communities. Barragán is recognized as a leading Democratic voice on environmental equity, border policy, and Latino representation in Congress.
