Nikema Natassha Williams represents Georgia's 5th Congressional District, a central Atlanta-based seat previously held by civil rights icon John Lewis. Elected in 2020 and serving her third term, Williams is a longstanding voting rights champion who graduated from Talladega College. She worked as an organizer and executive at Planned Parenthood Southeast and the American Civil Liberties Union of Georgia before serving in the Georgia State Senate and chairing the Democratic Party of Georgia, leading the party to statewide victories in 2020 and 2022. In the 119th Congress, she serves on the House Financial Services, Transportation and Infrastructure, and Education and Workforce committees. As co-chair of the Congressional Voting Rights Caucus, Williams champions voting access and election integrity. Her great aunt was Autherine Lucy, the first Black woman to attend the University of Alabama, a legacy of educational pioneering that shaped her commitment to civil rights.
