Biography

Pat Ryan is a Democrat representing New York's 18th District since 2022, a West Point graduate and Iraq War combat veteran serving on the House Armed Services Committee.

Patrick Kevin Ryan, U.S. Representative for New York's 18th Congressional District, is a Democrat who won a special election in August 2022 and is serving his second full term representing the mid-Hudson Valley including Newburgh, Poughkeepsie, and Kingston. A West Point graduate and former U.S. Army intelligence officer with two combat tours in Iraq, including deployment to Mosul in 2008, Ryan attained the rank of captain and received two Bronze Star Medals. After military service, he worked in the technology sector and served as Ulster County Executive. His 2022 special election victory in a swing district was seen as an early signal of Democratic strength on abortion rights following the Dobbs decision. In the 119th Congress, Ryan sits on the House Armed Services Committee, focusing on veterans, national security, and reproductive rights.
