Paul David Tonko, U.S. Representative for New York's 20th Congressional District, is a Democrat first elected in 2008 serving his ninth term representing New York's Capital Region including Albany, Schenectady, and Troy. A Clarkson University graduate with a degree in engineering who worked for the New York State Department of Transportation, Tonko had a 25-year career in the New York State Assembly before serving as CEO of the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority. In the 119th Congress, he serves as Ranking Member of the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Environment, Manufacturing, and Critical Materials. Tonko co-chairs the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition and serves as honorary advisor to the Alliance to Save Energy, focusing on clean energy, climate policy, and the opioid epidemic.
