Subramanian Raja Krishnamoorthi is the U.S. Representative for Illinois's 8th Congressional District, serving his fifth term since 2017. Born in New Delhi and raised in Peoria, he graduated from Princeton and Harvard Law School, worked as a special assistant attorney general in Illinois, and founded a clean-energy business. He serves on the House Oversight and Government Reform (where he is ranking member of the Health Care and Financial Services Subcommittee) and Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. As ranking Democrat on the Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party, he is the first South Asian American to lead a congressional committee. Krishnamoorthi focuses on manufacturing competitiveness, technology policy, and strategic competition with China.
