Biography

Ro Khanna is a California Democratic congressman representing Silicon Valley's 17th District, progressive voice and co-chair of Sanders's 2020 campaign.

Rohit Khanna represents California's 17th Congressional District, a Silicon Valley district covering much of Fremont, Santa Clara, and Sunnyvale and home to major tech headquarters including Apple, Intel, and eBay, as a Democrat first elected in 2016 and now serving his fifth term in the 119th Congress. The son of Indian immigrants, Khanna was born in Philadelphia, graduated from the University of Chicago and Yale Law School, and practiced intellectual property and technology law. He served as deputy assistant secretary at the U.S. Department of Commerce in the Obama administration, focusing on domestic manufacturing and exports. In the 119th Congress, Khanna serves on the House Committee on Armed Services as ranking member of the Subcommittee on Cyber, Innovative Technologies and Information Systems, and is also a member of the Seapower subcommittee. He serves on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and the Select Committee on Strategic Competition with the Chinese Communist Party. A leading progressive voice, Khanna was a national co-chair of Bernie Sanders's 2020 presidential campaign and advocates for economic policy emphasizing technology regulation, foreign policy restraint, manufacturing reinvestment, and a 'New Economic Patriotism' centered on American economic competitiveness.
