Ted Lieu is a Democratic U.S. Representative from California's 36th District and vice chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the highest-ranking Asian American in House leadership serving in the 119th Congress.
Ted W. Lieu is the U.S. Representative for California's 36th Congressional District, a Democrat first elected in 2014 and currently serving his sixth term in the 119th Congress representing a coastal Los Angeles County district covering Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, Malibu, and the South Bay. Born in Taiwan and raised in Cleveland, Lieu graduated from Stanford and Georgetown Law and served on active duty and in the reserves as a U.S. Air Force JAG officer, retiring as a colonel. He served in the Torrance City Council, California State Assembly, and State Senate before entering Congress. He sits on the Judiciary Committee and Science, Space, and Technology Committee and serves as vice chair of the House Democratic Caucus, making him the highest-ranking Asian American ever to serve in House Democratic leadership. He is active on technology policy, artificial intelligence, and democracy and civil liberties issues.
