Democratic U.S. Representative from Texas's 34th District since 2023; conservative Democrat serving on Financial Services and Agriculture committees.
Vicente Gonzalez Jr. is the U.S. Representative for Texas's 34th Congressional District, a Democrat first elected in 2016 in a different district and currently serving his fifth term after switching to the 34th District following 2022 redistricting. A University of Texas-Pan American graduate and Texas Southern University's Thurgood Marshall School of Law alumnus, Gonzalez practiced law in McAllen before his congressional election. He represents a South Texas district stretching from Brownsville along the Gulf Coast with 87% Hispanic population. Gonzalez sits on the House Financial Services and Agriculture committees and focuses on border, trade, and agriculture issues. A member of the Blue Dog Coalition, he is considered a conservative Democrat. He won reelection in 2024 against Republican Mayra Flores and notably voted in 2025 with Henry Cuellar in favor of the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act.
