Biography

William Keating is an 8-term Democratic U.S. Representative from Massachusetts's 9th District and chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Europe, Energy and Cyber Subcommittee.

William Richard Keating has represented Massachusetts's 9th Congressional District since 2010, encompassing Cape Cod, the Islands, and the South Coast. A Boston College and Suffolk University Law School graduate, Keating worked as a lawyer and served in both chambers of the Massachusetts legislature before serving as Norfolk district attorney. In the U.S. House, he sits on the Foreign Affairs and Armed Services committees, where he chairs the Subcommittee on Europe, Energy, the Environment and Cyber, positioning him as a key voice on transatlantic relations and European security. Keating brings sustained attention to fisheries management, maritime economies, coastal resilience, and climate impacts on fishing communities. His district's significant Portuguese and Italian American populations inform his priorities on Europe and Mediterranean affairs. His legislative work balances international strategic concerns with constituent interests in fishing, maritime commerce, and coastal economic development.
