Young Kim is a Korean American Republican U.S. Representative from California's 40th District and Chair of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on East Asia and the Pacific.
Young O. Kim is the U.S. Representative for California's 40th Congressional District, a Republican first elected in 2020 and currently serving her third term. Born in Incheon, South Korea, Kim immigrated as a teenager and graduated from the University of Southern California. She worked as a district staffer for former Representative Ed Royce for more than two decades before serving in the California State Assembly, becoming one of the first Korean American women elected to Congress. In the 119th Congress, she serves on the House Foreign Affairs and Financial Services committees, where she chairs the Subcommittee on East Asia and the Pacific and serves as Vice Chair of the Subcommittee on National Security, Illicit Finance, and International Financial Institutions. She also serves on the Select Committee on the Strategic Competition between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party. Her legislative priorities include strengthening U.S.–Asia relations, promoting small business interests, combating North Korean human rights abuses, and advancing American competitiveness in the Indo-Pacific region.
