Preparedness and Response Reauthorization Act
This bill reauthorizes through FY2028 various programs and activities that support public health preparedness and response.
This includes
- the Public Health Emergency Preparedness Program, which provides funding for health departments to build their capacity to respond to public health threats;
- the Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity Program, which supports the ability of health departments to prevent and address infectious disease outbreaks; and
- the Epidemic Intelligence Service, an applied epidemiology training program of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Additionally, the Government Accountability Office must report on data collection and sharing by the federal government during public health emergencies that involve infectious disease outbreaks or biological threats (e.g., the COVID-19 pandemic).
