Steve Scalise (R-LA-1) is House Majority Leader and a 2017 shooting survivor, serving his ninth term in Congress.
Stephen Joseph Scalise is the U.S. Representative for Louisiana's 1st Congressional District, a Republican first elected in a 2008 special election and serving his ninth term. A graduate of Louisiana State University, Scalise worked as a computer systems engineer and served in the Louisiana House of Representatives and State Senate. He represents a district covering Louisiana's southeastern suburbs north and west of New Orleans and the River Parishes. In the 119th Congress, he serves as House Majority Leader, the second-ranking House Republican position, after previously serving as House majority whip. In June 2017, Scalise was critically wounded in a politically motivated shooting at a congressional baseball practice but made a full recovery. His priorities include energy production, tax policy, and conservative governance.
